3.1 Hello, Cataloguer

Summary

Welcome, this tutorial begins the Cataloguer Workflow section. If you've skipped to this tutorial, we recommend taking a step back and studying the Core Concepts first to get you up to speed to understand this section easier.

In this tutorial, we introduce the cataloguer to... who a cataloguer is. We describe the responsibilities, standards, & ethics that a cataloguer must adhere to considering the critical work they do.

Who is a Cataloguer?

A Cataloguer in Sanduq is an individual responsible for creating and managing Assets in Sanduq. They may also contribute towards creating People & Places in Sanduq.

That is the practical role of a cataloguer. However, we must say that a cataloguer is, first and foremost, someone entrusted with an important responsibility. Through their work, Cataloguers play a central role in preserving culture and heritage. They safeguard knowledge, that otherwise may have been lost in time- knowledge that generations to come will learn from and cherish.

Responsibilities

  1. Cultural Stewardship: Preserve knowledge that reflects heritage, tradition, and lived experience.
  2. Research: Conduct careful research to verify historical, cultural, and contextual details prior to cataloguing.
  3. Integrity: Cite original sources whenever appropriate.
  4. Quality Assurance: Follow established cataloguing standards (explained in detail below).
  5. Ethical Responsibility: Handle sensitive cultural data responsibly and act with impartiality and professionalism.
